Choose the Correct Garden Light Type
The installation method depends on the fixture structure.
Solar garden lights contain a solar panel, rechargeable battery, controller, and LED source. They are easy to position but need sufficient sunlight during the day.
Low-voltage garden lights commonly operate through a compatible transformer. They are suitable for paths, planting areas, and residential landscapes where flexible fixture placement is required.
Mains-powered outdoor lights can support larger fixtures and longer operating periods, but their permanent wiring should be completed by a qualified electrician.
Pole-mounted garden lights provide wider illumination for courtyards, parks, residential roads, and public landscape projects.
The fixture should be approved for outdoor use and matched to the expected rain, dust, temperature, corrosion, and impact conditions.
Confirm the Power and Cable Route
Solar products should be installed where the panel receives open daylight rather than remaining beneath dense trees, roof edges, walls, or other obstructions.
For wired garden lights, plan the complete route from the power source to every fixture before digging or mounting.
The cable arrangement should avoid:
Areas likely to be excavated
Sharp stones and metal edges
Regular vehicle traffic
Irrigation equipment
Standing water
Tree roots
Unprotected surface exposure
Low-voltage systems still require compatible cables, connectors, power capacity, and environmental protection.
Do not place ordinary indoor plugs, terminal blocks, or power supplies directly on wet ground. Connections should remain inside suitable outdoor enclosures or use an approved sealed structure.
Mains-voltage work, grounding, circuit protection, and permanent underground wiring should follow local electrical requirements and be handled by qualified personnel.
Install Ground-Mounted Fixtures
Mark each position before making holes or inserting spikes.
For a spike light:
Loosen compacted soil before inserting the spike.
Hold the spike rather than pushing down on the lamp head.
Keep the fixture vertical and stable.
Aim the lamp toward the target.
Leave enough cable for adjustment.
Prevent the cable from carrying the fixture load.
Do not force a plastic or aluminum spike into hard, stony soil. This can crack the spike or damage the cable entry.
For heavier garden lights, prepare a stable concrete or structural base. Confirm the mounting-hole pattern and cable-entry position before the base cures.
Bolts should be tightened evenly so the light remains upright without deforming its mounting plate.
Aim the Light and Control Glare
Turn on the complete system after dark and adjust one fixture at a time.
Check whether the beam enters:
Neighboring windows
Drivers’ eyes
Seating positions
Pedestrian sightlines
Security cameras
A light that appears correctly aimed during the day may create strong glare at night.
Use shields, louvers, controlled optics, or a lower mounting angle where necessary. The objective is to place light on the target surface rather than sending uncontrolled brightness into the surrounding area.
For trees and façades, leave enough distance between the fixture and target to produce an even beam. A light positioned too close can create a small, harsh hotspot.
Test the Complete Installation
After installation, inspect:

Cable protection
Connector sealing

Timer operation
Sensor direction
Beam consistency
Water drainage
Fastener tightness
Surface temperature
Allow the system to operate for several hours. Flicker, repeated shutdown, uneven output, or warm connectors may indicate an unsuitable power supply, voltage drop, poor connection, or excessive load.
Solar lights should be observed over several nights because their operating time depends on charging conditions and control settings.
